Character Info

Mario is a fictional character created by game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Serving as Nintendo's mascot, Mario has appeared in over 200 video games since his creation. Though originally only appearing in platform games, starting with Donkey Kong, currently Mario appears in many genres of games, such as racing, puzzle, role-playing, fighting, and sports games, and others. Mario is depicted as a short, pudgy, Italian-American plumber who lives in the Mushroom Kingdom, having originated from New York. He is best known for repeatedly stopping the plans of Bowser to kidnap Princess Peach and subjugate the Mushroom Kingdom. He also has other enemies and rivals, including Donkey Kong and Wario.
As Nintendo's mascot, Mario is one of the most famous characters in video game history, and his image has become synonymous with video games. Mario games, as a whole, have sold more than 201 million units, making the Mario series the best-selling video game series of all time. Outside the platform games he is traditionally associated with, Mario has appeared in video games in other genres, including the Mario Kart racing series, Nintendo's arcade sports games (such as the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf series), and Nintendo's series of Mario role-playing games. Outside the original games, television shows, film, and comics, he spawned a line of licensed merchandise.

General Information

Taunts

Up Taunt: Mario grows twice in size in a similar style of picking up a Super Mushroom before returning to normal size.

Down Taunt: Mario spins in place and holds a peace sign to the camera and cheering, "Here we go!"

Side Taunt: Mario takes his hat off and scratches his head before putting it back on his head.

Entrance

A Warp Pipe appears out of the ground at Mario's starting position before he jumps out of it and prepares for the battle ahead.

Kirby Hat

Kirby gains Mario's famous red hat.

Moveset

Standard Special

Fireball (2%-6%): Mario throws a red fireball that will bounce along the ground and ricochet off of obstacles and barriers, as well as opponent's shields. The fireball will burn out after travelling a certain distance.

Side Special

Cape (1%-5%): Mario swings his cape in front of him. His cape's not significantly damaging, but he can reflect projectiles back at his opponents or make them face the opposite direction by performing this attack.

Up Special

Star Spin (1%-15%): Mario spins around quickly as Luma appears from under Mario's hat and spins around him as well. Mario gains moderate recovery distance with this attack, however, if Mario hits an opponent with this attack he'll continue to spin and combo the opponent before sending them flying and gaining more distance than he normally would.

Down Special

F.L.U.D.D. (0%): Mario equips himself with F.L.U.D.D. and can use its Spray Nozzle to squirt water at his opponents to push them away from him. This attack doesn't cause any damage, but can still KO opponents if used on opponents attempting to return to the stage.

Final Smash

Mario Finale (10%-60%): Mario glows red before being overcome in a blazing aura and sending a fiery onslaught of flames across the stage horizontally and slightly extending vertically. Anyone trapped in the blazing flare of fire will take high amounts of damage and be sent flying with possibly no return.
