Hedgehog joins the battle for supremacy. Using his lightning-quick speed and rapid-fire attacks, Sonic can run circles around his opponents before they can even spot him. Much of Sonic's moveset has been carried over with him from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, however Sonic has brought some new attacks with him too. His Final Smash, Super Sonic, has also been completely redone in Super Smash Bros. Unlimited.


First of all, Sonic's Standard Special attack, the Homing Attack, really hasn't changed much, but in SSBU, the attack can hit any opponent regardless of their position on the stage. His Side Special however has been replaced this time around, the new attack is known as Light Speed. It's similar to Fox McCloud's Fox Illusion in terms of mechanics, except it can be aimed in any direction after its charging period. The attack may be charged up on the first turn to increase its damage output, or may be executed on a single turn for a smaller amount of harm. Sonic's Up Special, Spring Jump, also comes from Brawl, however, the Spring used during the recovery attack will stick around a bit longer. It'll despawn after 4 turns or falling off the stage and can be picked up and tossed by any player. Throwing the Spring at an opponent will either cause minor damage or send them flying, depending on which side of the Spring hits them. Sonic's Down Special attack, Spin Dash, allows Sonic to charge up a dashing attack in the form of a blue ball. The attack can be charged for up to 4 turns to cause higher amounts of damage and last longer in terms of additional turns after the charge period. His Final Smash, Super Sonic, is now an Ultimate Form complete with a full-fledged moveset, and like other Ultimate Forms, lasts for 8 turns.
